How To Slow Down Aging: Cell Therapy

As our standard of living increases and technology improves, we’re also living with an increasing number of diseases (12,500 types to be precise). As alarming as that sounds, fortunately, many are preventable if we know how to take the steps to do so.

Despite the good healthcare system in Singapore, there is an increasing proportion of older adults in Singapore with 3 or more chronic diseases. This number has nearly doubled in a short period from 2009 to 2017.

The top 5 chronic health conditions suffered by the elderly in Singapore include high blood pressure, high cholesterol, cataract, arthritis, and diabetes.

It has also been found that some “aging-associated” diseases, such as heart attacks, diabetes, and cancer, are becoming more common in younger people. The likely factors are hectic lifestyle, food choices, and environment. At a biological level, aging results from an accumulation of molecular and cellular damage over time, as the World Health Organisation (WHO) explains.

Humans are made up of 100 trillion cells which are made up of over  200 different specialised cell types, such as muscle, bone, or brain cells. Cells are the basic building block for our tissues which in turn are the basis of our organs. Our organs make up our systems, such as the respiratory system or circulatory system, which work together to protect our body and keep it running.

Because of cell and tissue changes, your organs also change as you age. Aging organs slowly lose function. Thus, cell therapy is a therapy in which cellular material is injected or otherwise transplanted into a patient with the aim of repairing the diseased or replacing missing ones. This transplantation can be used to overcome health issues such as treating autoimmune disease, infectious disease, improving a weakened immune system, and rebuilding damaged cartilage in joints.

Cell therapy also helps us to replenish our body with high-quality raw material to repair and make new cells and also protects our healthy cells from free radical damage.  Repairing and replacing dead and damaged cells help us to combat the aging process. Cell therapy differs from conventional stem cell therapy in that the cells injected into the body in cell therapy are already differentiated (e.g., muscle cells, gland cells), whereas conventional stem cell therapy utilizes undifferentiated, usually embryonic cells.

Injury or aging can contribute to the loss of specialised cells from the body. Sometimes this loss is irreversible and our bodies are unable to replace the cells with new healthy cells.

Cell therapy comes in three forms, namely:

1. Stem cell implantation (bone marrow transplant)

Form: Autologous stem cell/animal stem cell

Objective: To treat specific diseases such as Parkinson’s disease, down syndrome, quadriplegic

Cost: Depending on the complexity of the disease

2. Cell therapy by injectables

Form: Sheep placenta/human placenta

Objective: To achieve anti-aging effects

Cost: Approximately USD 50,000 at certain clinics

3. Cell therapy by oral ingestion

Form: Celergen supplement – the World’s only Swiss marine Cell therapy

Objective: To achieve anti-aging effects

Cost: SGD 473

As we can see, cell therapy comes in multiple forms, such as using stem cells as mentioned, and through the use of supplements, which we’ll discuss below.

What are stem cells?

Stem cells are the body’s raw materials – cells from which other cells with specialised functions are generated. With the increase in studies and research done on stem cells, researchers now better understand how diseases occur and also how this knowledge can be used to generate healthy cells to replace the diseased cells in the body.

Stem cell therapy has been successfully used for many years now in the case of bone marrow transplants, for example. In some cases, it is used in the form of gene therapy to correct mutations by repairing or reconstructing defective genetic material.

The ability to use human stem cells in specialised cell types such as in the form of the brain, eye or pancreas has opened up future possibilities for the development of treatments for degenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s.

For anti-aging, cell therapy in the form of injectables can come along with quite a high price to pay which is only affordable by rich and famous. Fortunately, it also exists in the form of supplements, in this case, Celergen.

Celergen is the world only Marine Cell Therapy Supplement made in Switzerland which tiggers the rejuvenation of individual cells and stimulate human natural healing and revitalising power. It is in a soft gel from which uses swiss proprietary cold extraction technology ensuring each capsule has the highest degree of potency being absorbed by our body. Understanding the 5 Elements in TCM – Which One Are You?

On the other hand, Traditional Chinese Medicine’s (TCM) basic philosophy is to treat the person as a whole by diagnosing both symptoms and a person’s overall body condition. It does this by understanding a person’s body based on the 5 elements theory. These elements are namely Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water. This theory has been used in TCM diagnosis as early as ancient China’s “Warring States Period (476-221 BC). Each element represents a particular body organ, emotion, and meridian.
